About

Sound AI is where I write up hands-on AI research on real, public data. Much of it is about sound and signals (whales heard by sonobuoys, birdsong, radar), with other things when they turn up.

I’m not an acoustician. I come to this from machine learning, and I write things up as I go, including the results that don’t work. Each post links the data and the papers it relies on, and says what was measured and what was only inferred.

I do most of the work with an AI coding assistant (Claude). It writes much of the code and the first drafts, and I choose what to look at, check the results and rewrite the text. Every number and every image comes from a script that can be run again.

Corrections

If I find a mistake in a post, I fix it and add a dated note at the top saying what changed. Nothing is quietly edited.
